We envision a fully protected active transportation corridor along 5th / 6th Avenue NW, connecting Kensington, Sunnyside, Hillhurst and West Hillhurst.
People, especially kids, could safely access Queen Elizabeth, West Hillhurst Community Center, Bowview Pool, Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Center, Hillhurst School, Riley Park, Sunnyside Train Station, and the rest of Kensington.
It would link everything from 19th St NW to 10th St NW. It would make 5th / 6th Avenue safer to cross. It would make this street more pleasant to live on by calming traffic.
Road space is already allocated for this lane, but the current design is unsafe and badly neglected.
Kids traveling to school by scooter or bike aren't using it; they're riding on the sidewalk. They are showing us how they want to get around, but they are also showing us it isn't safe. Let's pay attention!
Let's take this space and use it better. Let's support and empower our kids to get around-- safe and easy!
Your councillor can help make this happen.
Putting in a 311 will help city staff understand the relative importance of this project to the community. The more they hear for individuals residents, the higher a priority it will become. When City staff don't hear this as an issue, it is assumed everything is fine the way it is.
Three ways to submit a 311 request
Whatever method you use to submit your 311 request, make sure you:
Talk to your neighbours about this idea and see what they think. Spend some time looking at how people, especially kids, are navigating this street.
Share this page, the video, or your own perspective online.
Let's be positive, imaginative, and make this happen!
